ah! a palette cleanser after watching that show! YAY!
This show gave me the same vibes the Daredevil flick did. Diggle? Grell? Any other "easter egg" shit they wanna toss in there? How about an old high school JOCK that teased him! Was the same way with DD... that kind of stuff just draws me out of the world you're trying to put me in.
That said Diggle and Jock's Year One is a fun read and probably a lot better than the show is going to be. Go read it if you haven't.
All this said: I'll watch a couple more episodes to make sure this is as awful as I think it is. Hell, I'm a glutton for punishment. I have a few shows I hate that I watch just to see "what does america see in this?!"
I disagree, kind of. I actually WANTED those easter eggs. (BTW: the Daredevil movie was horrible, I agree.) With Arrow, I knew the kind of show I was walking in to. I knew it was going to deviate from the source and it's on a channel that caters to a certain demographic, so my expectations were subdued. That said, I actually think it wasn't bad and I'm able to watch it with my daughters, who caught the easter eggs as well. It's not a home run as far as adaptations go, but it was a fun watch.
havent seen DKR. Once it goes to dvd or whatever I'll see it.
don't get me wrong: I wasn't expecting a GOOD show. Nor was I looking for an adaption anymore than I was looking for one with SMALLVILLE. I actually disliked SMALLVILLE at first too. Gave up on it after a few eps. Same thing will probably happen here too.
Most shows I consider "good" end up getting canceled pretty quickly - so what do I know?
You want a good show? Got Netflix? Then unsadden yourself with episodes of BBCs Sherlock. Or Breaking Bad. Or BSG. Or the first and second seasons of Lost. Or the Jersey Shore. (I'm kidding about the last one.)
i didn't like sherlock. bsg ive seen it all except the final half of the last season - got bored. watched first season of breaking bad - quit watching. lost i never liked but saw every episode. perfect example for not liking that show is the "jin dies" episode... it wasnt good writing. it was clever editing. and who didnt know that was going to happen? the show showed the past/future/present all the time.
Jersey Shore? The new version of that is Honey Boo Boo. That's what Americans watch now so they can feel better about themselves and make fun of people without having to face them.
All Americans? I'm pretty sure some of us have never seen an episode of either one. Some of us are actually rational with some sense. Although, we are a small percentage since those shows seem to see a lot of success.
While I can't argue with a lot of your points, you are missing out on the creamy goodness of Breaking Bad by dropping off after the first season. But based on your comments, I doubt you can be talked into picking it back up again. So I won't even try.
Looking forward to giving the show a shot--though I'm a little annoyed that it isn't "Green" Arrow. I mean, I can get just naming the show just Arrow--short, sweet, kinda mysterious--but why not have him be named Green Arrow in the actual story?
I know what you mean. But if we're gonna give this a shot (like we did with Smallville), then I think we're gonna have to have a certain mindset going in, whether we like it or not. Trust me, I HATE that they can't stick to the name, but I'm gonna give it a chance. The fact that Deadshot, Huntress, and a hint of Deathstroke will make appearances is showing a modicum of respect to the source material. Because it could be worse.
